The Parker Town Council approved some purchases by the Public Works Department at their July 19 meeting. These included new carpet tiles for the front lobby area. Tile & Carpets Unlimited from Lake Havasu City was awarded the contract for the new carpet. Their bid of $3,134.56 was the lower of the two bids Public Works Director Steve Ziegler received.

Ziegler said he contacted four different contractors, but only Tiles & Carpets Unlimited and Oasis Floors & Design Centers came out to view the project and submitted bids.

The Town of Parker has been upgrading the front lobby since May. A new window in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act has been installed. New security measures have also been installed, along with a new door and new cabinets. Ziegler said the new carpet will be finish the project.

The funding will come from the Capital Projects budget for fiscal year 2021-22.

The second purchase authorized was for a Goulds Vertical Multi-Stage Pump from Phoenix Pumps for $3,333.04. This was for the reverse osmosis water treatment facility at Parker South.

Ziegler explained Phoenix Pumps had tested the pump and the motor and found the motor needed new bearings. The pump, however, was inoperable and needed to be replaced.

The Town already has a service contract with Phoenix Pumps for pump repairs and maintenance, and they utilize Phoenix Pumps’ Cooperative Purchasing Agreement with the City of Chandler. Ziegler said they did not seek other bids for this item.

The council also approved the purchase of a new pump from Phoenix Pumps for $19,787.18. This is to replace Distribution Pump B at the pump house next to Town Hall after the old pump’s shaft broke on May 16. The funds will come from the Water Department’s Capital Budget.

The final purchase item for Public Works the council approved was an Accu-Tab Water Pro MD 3150 chlorination unit from Aquaflow Solutions. The cost is $66,355.63.

In a memo to the council, Ziegler said their current chlorination unit has had maintenance problems since it was purchased. He said he was talking with water employees from the Colorado River Indian Tribes, and they recommended the Accu-Tab units. Ziegler said the Tribes used them and were very pleased with them.

Ziegler said the Accu-Tab units are made by Axiall, LLC and are only sold through their distributors. He said that was why no other proposals were gathered.

The funds will come from the FY 2022-23 Water Department Capital Budget.
